Great Site

Shane These pieces, as well as the Photography is stunning. It all shows such depth of commitment on all levels, especially the patience to follow through on these projects. I love the photos, with a special fondness for the bird shots. I have done many pencil graphics with birds as subjects. Really great. I look forward to speaking with you about all of this. Dewalt RAS MBC Model Rel. No. 25

Dewalt RAS MBC 9" Restoration

Incredible! That says it all. I own and restored an MBC identical to your's from its grave. However, My finish detail is no where near your's. I will say though, my specialty in restoring and rebuilding old woodworking machinery is to correct design flaws and add features to improve safety and efficiency. Still though, your work on all the machines presented on this site is extrodanarily impressive.

Comet Radial Arm Saw Restoration

Comet Radial Power Saw

Hello,

looking at your restored Comet is very impressive ( beautiful ) and has given me the drive to restore mine. Looks like i have the exact saw thats in very good shape, and original condition but could use some work.

Are parts available and is it worth putting money into it? what do these cost restored?

thanks

Rockwell Belt Sander Restoration

Beautiful job Shane. I am currently restoring a similar unit (mdl# 31-501). Your Idea about resurfacing the platen with JB Weld works great. When you restored the upper drum cover, did you use the same product?

After Restoration

Comet Model UB

Comet Radial Saw - I have a Comet Model UB which looks very similar to the one you refurbished (looks very nice!). How much would you say the Model UB would be worth in fair condition if I could find a buyer. Your comments will be appreciated. Robert

1941 Yates American 6 Inch Jointer Restoration

J31 Jointer

I have an 8" J31 with 50 inch bed a built in the 40's a little later than yours. The direct drive motor housing was used as a cover for a pulley. Yates cut off the low part of the housing and connected a 3-phase 440/480V motor below using a belt drive system. Sometime later this was converted to a 1 HP 220V Baldor motor mounted to some square tube stock bolted between the end supports. I am curious to know if the shelves on your system are sheet metal, cast metal or painted wood. I've never seen one like yours. You must have some good tips for finding old usable parts. I had my J31 for about 3 years before I found an original guard on eBay. I just got lucky.

1941 Yates American 6 Inch Jointer Restoration

J31 Yates American Jointer

Great site! I am restoring the same jointer in the 8" version. I was wondering what your plan was for the paint scheme. Are you going to continue the black paint up from the base? What is the other color?

Thanks.

Kyle

Pics taken during the restoration.

Thanks Garth,

The best source for parts is the old woodworking machine forum. www.owwm.org

Join (it's free) and post a want to buy (WTB) ad in the BOYD forum.

Also take a look at it's mothership. www.owwm.com for dirty paper (old manuals and brochures) and tons of pics of great old machines.

Keith Rucker has put together some great info on the jointers here CRESCENT JOINTERS there is also a couple of link at the bottom of the page.

Good luck,
Shane
